Round table of school principals on the topic "Books and Publications on UN activities" took place UN Information Centre in Moscow. Mr. Alexander Gorelic, director of the Centre informed 35 participants about the latest UN publications while Dr.Valery Guerguel, director of Museum of Peacekeeping Operations proposed to organize exhibitions of UN books at schools by the 56-th anniversary of the UN and explained the methods for organization of the "Blue Beret" Contest at secondary schools.

Council of young peacemakers discussed the results of peace mission in the city of Alushta (in the Ukraine) at Moscow Teacher-Trainig Institute. It was stated by the council that the programme of the mission which included charity actions, competitions in sports and performances was successfuly completed. Young peacemakers hoisted UN flag on top of Dimerji mountain in the Crimea and another group of 18 socially active boys and girls was decorated with the honourable badges "Young Peacemaker" and "Young Peacemaker-Instructor".

Former UNMO Lt.Col (in res) Anatoly Isaenko contributed to the Museum funds the Briefing Notes of ICC dated 28 November, 1973. Briefing Notes describes the arrival to Ismailia (Egypt) the first group of Soviet military observers.

A token group of 21 young peacemakers left Moscow for the city of Alushta (Crimea in the Ukrain). The programme of the trip to last 21 day includes visiting places of interest, tourist and sport competitions, peacemaking and charity actions.

"Model of UN Peacekeeping — 2001" was successfully completed in Moscow June, 29.

Contest of children art works in support of the World Conference against Racism (Durban) was completed May 29 at the UN Information Center in Moscow. Hanging committee composed of representatives of UNIC Moscow, Moscow office of UNESCO and Moscow ASP network have selected 39 works to be sent to New Yourk for the exhibition at the UN Headquarters while young artists received special Diplomas of the hanging Committee.

Team of young peacemakers from the Southwest district of Moscow took part April 19 in the Day of Sweden Game organized by the Euro club, which works at Moscow Palace of Youth Creative Work. Young peacemakers were successful in a few contests especially in Swedish Food Contest (the first place) and in Asking Best Questions about Sweden Contest.

Spring volunteer action "In the Service of Peace and Good" was launched April 16, 2001 in Moscow by initiative of clubs of young peacemakers on occasion of the 56-th anniversary of the victory over fascism. During the action the youth will mark the Global Youth Service Day (21 April), the Earth Day (22 April), the Day of Spring and Labor in Russia (1 May), the Victory Day (9 May) and other important holidays. The action will continue till May 15, when the International Day of Family will be celebrated. The list of participants of the action embraces over 50 educational establishments and NGOs including clubs of young peacemakers, UNESCO associated schools of Moscow, Ufa, Solnechnogorsk and Fryazino as well as a number of national (ethnic) schools of Moscow. The coordination of the action will be carried out through the special internet-course by sending out a few issues of a virtual bulletin "In the Service of Peace". The publication contains the didactical materials necessary for organization of classes and exercises with young peacemakers and volunteers and describes the activities of the Council of Young Peacemakers to prepare the youth for summer camps.

The 3-rd National Conference of UNESCO ASP in Russia took place April 11 to 14, 2001 in Moscow. It was attended by representatives from regions of the Russian Federation and from CIS. Participants of the conference exchanged views and experience in realization of UNESCO associated school project in Russia. The Baltic Sea Project presented by Mr. Babitch from St.Peterburg attracted special attention of the participants. Over 300 scholars of the Republican lyceum in the city of Ufa (Republic of Bashkortostan) decided to join Spring Volunteer action "In the Service of Peace and Good" (April 16 to May 15, 2001) initiated by the Council of Young Peacemakers.

Over 30 representatives of peacemaking clubs and teams have met at Moscow Teacher Training Institute. The participants were addressed by Mr. John McEnally, a volunteer from Australia. The topics of discussion were: a) Bougainville Peace Operation and acquaintance with new exhibits donated into the Museum funds by Lt-Col M.L.Keam, Director of Australian Defence Force Warfare Centre RAAF Base Wiliamtown. b) Exchange of ideas on future activities. As the result of the discussion at meeting the Council of Young Peacemakers was organized.
