Presentation of Dag Hammarskjold Medals
Presentation of 719 Dag Hammarskjold Medals by the UN Secretariat to Member States took place April, 29 at 3.30 p.m. in the Library Auditorium. The invited representatives of 36+1 Member States (36 plus Switzerland) each received the Medal for their country's first peacekeeping fatality from Jean-Marie Guehenno, the Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations. This single Medal symbolized all the Medals to be presented to each country, at this time. All Medals due each were transferred to the Permanent Missions at the close of the ceremony. Conference of Russian SIVPOLS
Conference of Russian civil police was organized April 18 and 19 in Domodedovo (Moscow Region) at the Russian Police Retraining Institute on the occasion of the 10-th anniversary of Russian Police participation in UN peacekeeping. Among the speakers of the conference there were highranking representatives from Russian Ministry of Interior, Federal Boundary and Federal Security Services, the UN Information center in Moscow, Ministry of Interior of the Ukraine as well as the veterans of UN peacekeeping operations.

Conference "School of Peace as School of Young Peacemakers"
As a result of the conference organized April 12 and 13 at the secondary school # 1411 in Moscow the Code of Honour of Young Peacemakers was elaborated and adopted by the scholars. At the second day of the conference 46 boys and girls successfuly passed the exams and were decorated with the honourable badge "Young Peacemaker" designed by the Museum of Peacekeeping Operations.

UNA-USA’s Global Classrooms
According to the information offered by UN Information Center in Moscow UNA-USA's Model U.N. program offers students new opportunities. The program provides multiple perspectives on complex issues such as terrorism, child labor and exploitation, refugees, and the environment — issues of concern to youth worldwide. With the generous support of the Goldman Sachs Foundation, UNA-USA is introducing Global Classrooms: Model U.N. into three new sites around the world. Meeting of Peacekeeping Veterans with Young Peacemakers
Meeting of peacekeeping veterans with young peacemakers was organized at the UN Information center in Moscow March 15. The topic of discussion was "UN peacekeeping Operations. Problems and Prospects". Among the veterans to share the experience wth youngsters were Sergey Shashkov (UNMO 1998-1999), Eugene Komlyakov (UNMO 1980-1982), Alexander Bochkovsky (UNMO 1998-2000) and Oleg Rubezhov (SivPol 1999-2001).

Festival of Sports Devoted to UN Peacekeeping
Over 25 teams of young peacemakers arrived March 1, 2002 at the secondary school # 271 (3, Tsander Str., Moscow) to participate in the Festival of Sports devoted to UN peacekeeping. Among the guest of honour to open the festival were Alexander Gorelik (UNIC Moscow), Vyacheslav Sheyanov (member of NOC), Andrew Lymar (National Coordinator of ASP) as well as the reperesentatives of local authorities and of the Nort-Eastern district of Moscow. Young sportsmen to win contests and competitions were awarded with prizes, certificates and Euro-kopeks minted on the occasion of the festival.

Museum of Peacekeeping Operation has got a Baby!
Museum really has got a nice baby who was named Peace Education Net. The newly born applied for the employment and immediately has got a really interesting job. One can find the baby in the Internet at the address: http://www.peace-edu.un-museum.ru. So far there are 29 secondary schools in the Net. Welcome onboard...

Peacekeepers and Peacemakers of All Countries - Unite!
An ordinary guestbook was recently put on the site and it works now in "forum" mode. So one can talk with the other both in Russian and in English without asking the Museum Council for assistance . Humor is welcome both Russian and English as well as Irish, Indonesian, French, Chineese, Italian, German, Spanish, Indian and... No pictures! Please.

New names in the Gallery of Honour of Russian Peacekeepers
Lt.Col. Mikhail Kantaria, Senior officer of Russian milobs in Sierra Leone informed the Museum that 10 Russian milobs were decorated with the UN medal "In the Service of Peace" in 2001. Namely V.V.Gluschenko, A.A.Zaikov, I.V.Kulga, V.A.Makushev, V.I.Matsal, S.B.Mikrukov, A.S.Molochkov, V.V.Selin, A.A.Starin, A.S.Shalnov. By decision of Council of Veterans of the Museum these names were put into the Gallery of Honour of Russian Peacekeepers.

New currency was minted by secondary school
Secondary school # 271 minted unusual currency named Euro-kopek which will be in circulation at school only for two days - 1-st and 2-nd March, 2002. These days young peacemakers of the school will conduct the Festival of Russian sports devoted to UN peacekeeping. New currency will be distributed among winners of competitions and quizes. Value of Euro-kopek is lower than value of Euro, but higher than value of Russian kopek or rouble. Price of a Coca-Cola bottle is 2 Euro-kopeks.
